With my crazy schedule lately, I realized I am dedicating less and less time for things I used to enjoy tremendously, things that provided me and others with joy. This might not be very flattering to me, but once upon a time I used to spent patiently lots of thoughts and research on choosing a gift for my dear ones, while currently I am constantly panicking over finding one in the last day, even hours before the party. Until recently I had troubles finding something special and meaningful in such a short time before the deadline. Usually I was digging the internet for unique gifts, tailored to my friends wishes, needs, tastes and passions. The summer, and especially July is the most celebration rich month in the year. Birthdays, weddings and other special celebration all crowded …

Here I am with a new gossip session about furniture styles. Still having sofas as target, and today’s sofa could not be more suitable for this series.  The tete-a-tete is also known as gossip couch. Though developed in the early 19th century in France out of cushioned french sofas, it was very popular in the Victorian period, thus many surviving pieces feature a more ornate style the the one in the picture above. As the french name is stating, it was a seating situation meant for an intimate conversation. Well, sometimes “intimate conversation” is the pseudonym for gossip. The sinuous shape forms two seats facing in opposite direction but still very close to see out of the corner of the eye the person seating next and having that intimate conversation with. The antique versions are generally …

It’s been now two month since I moved in. One of my plans related to this change, was to move somewhere where I get a blank canvas and a space with some character to manifest my ideas and my taste and my style as I developed and honed it working on several client projects and reading and studying the work of others. The prerequisites of emptiness and character were met when I found this cozy and intimate attic in Cotroceni. I also knew I had to keep in mind budget and the limitation of a rental. And I am saying this in a positive way, as the challenge and the skills lie exactly in achieving a great interior with limited resources. Of course, it was and still is aimed to be also a portfolio project, therefore …

“Better later than never” applies perfect to me, reading this book.  But what a reading experience! The plot, having the Great Depression in the US as background and dealing actually with really serious issues, like rape and racism, is being revealed with the voice of Scout Finch a six-year-old tomboy girl, who transforms everything into a gentle and often amusing reporting of the events going on around her. It is amazing how the author, Harper Lee, manages to tell the whole story using the angle of view of a child. With some censorship, it could be a bedtime story reading. A very educational one. And a beautiful one. Many of the characters in the novel, and much of the action is inspired by the author’s childhood and environment. Her brother was indeed four years older, her …

Tons of framed and unframed art is waiting to be hang by someone handy (#notme) on my walls. I can’t wait to see it all up, and my mind is very busy making different scenarios for the future art wall(s?). Funny enough one of my lovely clients has this empty wall in the living room she cannot stand anymore, so we came up with some ideas for the layout and for the art to be framed.   The seated version involves a shelf to support some of the frames, while others can still be hang between/above the seated ones. I like this version because the shelf offers additional space for showcasing other props, that cannot be fixed on the wall, mixing them with the framed art.   Aligning different sized frames is a good solution for …

Dear ones, I am currently traveling – a little bit for work and a little bit for leisure. When I happen to be in so many places in such a short time, it makes me inevitable think how much politics and internet has changed our life in the last few years, to the better… for the time being. Politics for one, because we’re allowed to travel, to cross borders (sometimes only noticing that we stepped into a different country just by getting a roaming notification SMS from the mobile provider) encountering no custom control, no uniforms, no checks, no scrutiny. The internet for the other, as the permanent connection  to our virtual community somehow makes the distance vanish. I have no longer the feeling, when abroad – even to very remote countries – that I am …

Despite the fact that I should be buying wardrobes and tables and storage to get rid of the boxes in my new home, I started with some adorable little deco stuff (#carulinainteaboilor). Recently I stumbled upon this new home deco online-shop, based in Romania (!!!), run by some nice Romanians (!!!), and I had a near epileptic reaction (in a good way :)). Breathless and with increased blood pressure, I pushed the buttons as quick as I could and ordered the first items out of a huge array of categories and objects. “The Home” features beautiful Scandinavian, French, German and Italian design, for the kitchen, bath, garden, living and bedroom and even for your…dog. There’s no way to land on their website and leave empty handed. I especially love the natural materials objects (marble and wood) …

Here we go again folks! I moved out and moved in, and I might suffer from a compulsive cleaning disorder cause I was completely stuck into my cleaning obsession for the last  two weeks, in the new apartment, as I am unable to function and to think clearly surrounded by clutter and boxes and dust. BTW, dust! There’s nothing I hate more. I assume there is some reason for the dust in the ecosystem, or maybe not, but I wouldn’t mind if it would completely vanish as a concept #dustgoaway. That being said, I am more or less back on the path now, and I would like to share with you the first steps of the process. As I wasn’t able, as hoped, to procure some quality photos of my old home still furnished, I will …

Today has been a good day! After cooling a little bit down after my weekend, I gave it today another try. Bucharest is as beautiful and worth-visit as any other city in this whole wide world during events like the Romanian Design Week. If you haven’t been part of it yet, just leave whatever you are doing, and go out, visit, enjoy and soak in the creativity boiling throughout our capital. There’s still time until the 25th of May, with lots of exhibitions, experiments and events lasting the entire week, the Architecture Studios Night today, the Art Galleries Night on Friday, “Art Safari” art fair having opened yesterday and running till Sunday. Last year I did tour the week with my friend Raluca, and this year we joined again for spending some quality time together. Hmm, …

The events and exhibitions during the Romanian Design Week were on my priority list this weekend and I was very much looking forward to them. Nevertheless as “planul de-acasa nu se potriveste cu cel din targ”, my Saturday turned into a half-nightmare, my car being the reason behind the whole drama. Long story, short version, I am a walking driving encyclopedia of stupid incidents/accidents as a driver. I could write a book “Me, my car and our twisted relationship”. Far from being really a danger on the streets (Or so I would say…) – so don’t panic if we meet and I am behind the wheel –  I am always squeezing sooo many tasks into one single day, that I end up being constantly in a crazy hurry switching between jobs and roles, private and professional. …
